Many of us grew up riding traditional “push” scooters, and have fond memories of them.

#1  Check Weight Capacity Rather Than Suggested Ages

My daughter,for example, has a Razor E200S seated electric scooter. Razor suggests that riders of this scooter should be at least 12 years of age. Yet, my daughter just turned 10, and handles the scooter just fine. It is light enough for her to handle, yet sturdy enough to be stable.

Suggested weight capaciites, on the other hand, are important to heed. A rider that is too heavy for the scooter to handle, can damage the scooter in a hurry!

#2  Pay Attention To The Electric Scooter’s Top Speed

Most kids electric scooters have a top speed of between 10-15 mph. While these speeds are safe for children, many kids feel more comfortable at 10 mph than they do at 15 mph.

We considered getting the Razor E100 electric scooter for our daughter. However, it has a top speed of 10 mph, and she felt like she would get bored at that speed. For other children, 10 mph is PLENTY fast!
