Best Electric Scooters For Adults In 2018

When my wife first approached me with the idea of getting an electric scooter, I thought that all electric scooters were for kids and I had never seen otherwise. I basically had no experience with an adult electric scooter. However, watch this brief video of the Razor EcoSmart scooter on a test drive, and you can see how much fun they can be!

The best adult electric scooters are as follows (side scroll viewing).

Razor EcoSmart Super Turbo UberScoot Glion Dolly Columbia TX-550

The Razor EcoSmart can take a full grown adult up to speeds of 18+ mph!

Razor has several adult electric scooters that appeal to older kids as well. In fact, sales of these models have dramatically increased in recent years.

This increase is probably linked to the fact that electric scooters are both economical, and environmentally friendly. Check out my review of this adult electric scooter.

Who Is This Mobility Scooter Best Suited For?

When I think of the Razor EcoSmart, I think of a casual motorized scooter that should be exclusively used in a leisurely manner. It’s perfect for commuting around town whether that be to the grocery store or just to your friends’ house, so if those were your intentions, this electric scooter is perfect for you. Traveling is just easy with this adult electric scooter with seat.

Who Is This Scooter Not For?

I’ll admit that this adult electric scooter does have a broad audience, but I still wouldn’t classify it as so versatile that it’s for everyone. If you’re planning on riding in rugged terrain and/or poor conditions, I’m not really sure how this Ecosmart would hold up. Regardless, it is a nice self balancing E Scooter and I could probably recommend it to most people.

The Black Super Turbo is a particularly new adult electric scooter. It features a  1,000-watt, hi-torque DC neodymium magnet motor, that can help the rider reach a top speed of 26+ mph!

The Black Super Turbo is a popular adult electric scooter.

Featuring a high tensile steel frame, extra wide abs resin deck, and a front suspension fork, the Super Turbo can easily handle riders up to 260 lbs! At 95 lbs, it has a sold heft to it as well.

It has a 18 mile range, which makes it very popular for running short errands in small communities.

The front and rear disc brakes provide crisp and sure braking. The alloy mag wheels give it a sharp appearance, as well!

Who Is This Scooter Best Suited For?

To be completely transparent, I wouldn’t say that this electric scooter proposes any immediate limitations. In my opinion, this scooter could probably be used effectively for 99% of situations and it isn’t really a niche scooter like some others might be. You can probably already tell by the thick wheels and sturdy frame that a scooter like this is probably perfect for outdoor terrain like trails and hikes (and it is) so it should come as no surprise that this is what the Black Super Turbo is most often used for.

Like I’ve already mentioned, there aren’t any visible faults to this electric scooter that I’ve noticed but I could see why some would choose not to use this scooter around town.

What electric scooter for adultscould possibly be the hottest new electric scooter is the Uberscoot scooter.

It weighs less than the Super Turbo, at 75lbs, so it is able to reach the same top speed of 26+ mph. It is a 1000 watt electric scooter, so it can handle adult sized riders up to 240 lbs.

As you can see from the image, the Uberscoot scooter has a rugged and tough look to it, almost like a dirt bike. It’s still great for using around town.

An adult electric scooter like this is a lot like the super turbo, but it has proven to be more versatile very frequently. It also has very thick wheels and a pretty wide frame but the main difference lies in the weight and of course the seat. It rides a bit smoother as well which makes riding in the city more enjoyable.

Who Is This Scooter Not For?

Again, it is difficult to say exactly who should refrain from buying this scooter because it offers much versatility. If I had to pick, I would say that this scooter is still a better fit for the woods and rugged terrain, even though it still rocks everywhere else. It may not be the best self balancing electric scooter for adults if you intend to commute with it though.

adult electric scooterBefore you start screaming at me for recommending such an expensive scooter, hear me out and in the meantime check out its reviews here.

In all honesty, I can easily understand the argument that this is the best electric scooter for adults, although it’s a close race. It has a Li-Ion battery which means it charges up pretty quick, usually in less than 4 hours. The handlebar is genuinely one of the best I’ve ever felt, and the maneuverability is undeniable.

The maximum speed on the Glion Dolly is 15 miles per hour and it has a range of 15 miles. So at maximum speeds, you should get about an hour of playtime which I think is more than enough for most folks. I really like this scooter a lot and if you have the funds required, you can’t go wrong with the Glion Dolly folding powered scooter. Click here to see my review of this product.

Who Is This Scooter Best For?

Considering the price, this adult scooter is best for people who are willing to spend the amount required which is by no means a small amount to most people. I’ve never heard of the term “luxury scooter” but if I had, this Glion Dolly would fit the bill. I almost want to say that this scooter is best used indoors, but it should also be fine on flat terrain with good weather conditions.

Who Is This Scooter Not For?

If you’re not careful, you can ruin your Glion Dolly pretty easily. For that reason alone, I wouldn’t recommend this scooter to anyone who is looking to “ride in the mud” or risk any damage whatsoever to themselves or to their electric scooter. Some might not like that is a foldable electric mobility scooter, or that it is a lightweight and compact power scooter, but I can appreciate this.

The last fantastic optioscooter for adultsn I have to share with you is the Columbia TX-550 electric scooter with dual suspension. This is one of my personal favorites because of how simply and beautifully it glides everywhere making it one of the top electric scooters for adults available.

The twist grip throttle provides smooth and even acceleration, while the “bicycle”style hand brakes provide excellent braking.

It has a range of up to 12 miles on a single charge of it’s 24 volt battery pack, and the max speed is a nice 18 mph!

Who Is This Scooter Best Suited For?

Just about anyone can comfortably enjoy this electric scooter. It has wheels that are the perfect balance between thin and thick making them great for riding on almost all terrain (excluding extreme conditions). The biggest concern I had with this scooter was its limited range. The durability it brings and the fact that it has a removable lithium battery is a nice touch, and the stability cruising is great as well.

Who Is This Scooter Not For?

Anyone who is planning on travelling long distances. 12 miles is quite a small range so don’t choose this electric scooter if you wanted to get to your work that is 20 miles away. It also is pretty fast, so if we’re talking about younger children, it probably isn’t the ideal kids scooter.

What Do I Like About These Scooters?

Probably too much to list on here, so that’s a positive. I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but the fastest electric scooter for kids that I’ve seen is clearly the Razor E300 and it reaches a maximum of 15 mph, which is not really too shabby; that is until you actually get a taste of electric scooters for adults.

These bad boys almost always exceed 20 mph in maximum speed but it is not at all uncommon for them to go all the way up in the high 20’s (26 is a standard).

Another thing I love about these electric scooters is the level of comfort you have. There’s plenty of space for your feet and you really should not feel crammed at all. If anything, the space will be too large.

Charge time is the last thing I really noticed about these scooters; they charge much faster than electric scooters for kids. The typical kids electric scooter takes a massive 12 hours for a full charge, while some adult scooters can take less than four hours.

What Don’t I Like About These Scooters?

The one that really stands out to me is range. Yes, some have better overall range than others but more often than not, you’ll always be thinking about how much charge you have left when trekking across sizable distances.

If 6 miles separates you and your local store, you’re sometimes going to feel a bit on edge about how much charge you still have, so be sure to pick your battles wisely.

Investing In Adult Electric Scooters

This is something we have to touch up on simply for the fact that electric scooters for adults are downright expensive and it can get pretty steep (sometimes over $1000). For all of the scooters you see here, it won’t get that crazy but believe me, they’re not exactly cheap.

They are very popular items for a reason and they do get the job done. For most of the people I’ve met, electric scooters are a novelty item. They ride on it for fun in most cases and stray away from commuting with their electric scooters due to fear of judgment I assume.

That really should not be a concern though! Nowadays, people are riding hoverboards, motorized bikes, and things much crazier than electric scooters so don’t feel weird about it for one second.

Which Scooter Is Best For You?

Maybe the toughest question you’ll have to ask yourself before you come to a final decision is this one. You really don’t want to mess up here and get something that isn’t suited for you because like I already said, these things are anything but cheap.

  • Speed
  • Comfort
  • How It Looks
  • Range
  • Charge Time

Are just a few of the things you’ll probably be looking at before you click buy. One thing I haven’t mentioned is that I really think you should ask yourself what the scooter is going to be used for before you narrow it down.

Think of it like this. Let’s say you’re on this page because you’re interested in an electric scooter to take you to the gym three times a week because gas is expensive, there’s no parking, or whatever your reason may be.

What kind of adult electric scooter suits this scenario? In my opinion, I think that range is probably the most important factor to take into account, followed by comfort, charge time, speed, and lastly how it looks.

Of course this is going to depend on many things. For example, if the gym is only 2 miles away then range maybe isn’t that important because you can make the trip there and back multiple times before charging up. But let’s assume that the gym is 12 miles away and you have the option of choosing between an electric scooter for adults that has a maximum range of 18 miles vs. one that has a range of 25 miles. Which one should you choose?

If the scooter is going to be used mainly just for fun, you could put range even lower on the list. In this category you’ll probably be looking more at speed, charge time, and maybe even how it looks but really it all depends.

Speed is undoubtedly a huge thing to take into account. What good is it for a scooter to have a range of 50 miles if it takes you 10 hours to reach that? Most adult scooters vary in speeds, usually between 15 mph – 30 mph. You’ll be able to choose if you want a faster one or not but let me be the first to warn you that the fastest electric scooters are most often the most expensive as well.

What Can/Should You Expect From These Adult Electric Scooters?

Speed, comfort, and good looks are some things you can expect from these electric scooters. Getting the job done is something you absolutely SHOULD expect from these scooters because that’s what they were made for; to get the job done. If your scooter is currently not getting the job done for you, then something is definitely wrong and you need to invest in something else. I really can recommend these electric scooters because from my experience, they’ve done all I have ever required of them.

Chances are that you are on this page because you need an electric scooter for commuting purposes. You can basically choose between a personal transporter or a scooter, but both do the same things in general. You don’t need to be stressed out about your options because when it comes down to it, just about any of these electric scooters I’ve mentioned should provide you with more than what you need.

Other than that, there really isn’t much else to be said as far as expectations go. I assume that most of you know that while an electric scooter can be extremely handy, you probably shouldn’t depend on it too much. Don’t get me wrong, it should and probably will be just fine for going to the grocery store or your close place of work. All I’m saying is that you probably shouldn’t try to ride your scooter on the freeway or for long distances. Know what your electric scooter can and can’t do!

By now you know that electric scooters are not only for kids and are actually used by adults all over the world. Many would even argue that they should be exclusively used by adults and adults only, although I don’t know if I would go that far. One thing is certain however, electric scooters are on the rise year after year and they are slowly replacing what we once used bicycles and skateboards for. Electric scooters are the perfect mix of fun while also getting you to your destination quickly, cheaply, and efficiently.
